About
About us
Family owned, and proud to be part of the Chico community. We serve the tacos, burritos and plates we grew up eating, made fresh every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Our story
Our father sold tacos from a cart on Sixth Street through the nineties. We put the cart back on that corner in 2019 and opened this dining room on Alvarado two years later. The adobada recipe came from his mother in Hermosillo, and so did most of the rest of the menu.
Made fresh every day
We grind our masa here every morning and press the tortillas to order. The adobada cooks on the trompo through the day, and the carnitas go in the pot before we open. There are three salsas on every table, mild to hot, and we make all of them fresh daily. Everything is cooked to order, so on a busy night your food might take a few extra minutes.

Come sit down
Our dining room is big and open late, and it gets loud on a weekend. Bring the whole family, pull up a seat at the bar, or take the patio when the weather is good. There is room for birthdays, team dinners and the game on Sunday.
Three generations
Our grandmother Rosa learned to cook in her mother’s kitchen in Hermosillo, where the adobada was marinated overnight and somebody pressed tortillas by hand for every meal. She came north in 1978 and brought the recipes with her, written down in a notebook she kept in the kitchen drawer.
That notebook is where most of our menu comes from. Her son, our father, sold tacos from a cart on weekends while he worked days at a body shop on Fourth Street. By the late nineties there was a line down the block on Saturdays.
We put the cart back on Sixth Street in 2019 and opened the dining room on Alvarado two years after that. The molino in the back grinds our corn every morning before we open. The old cart still comes out for street fairs.
Three generations work here on a Saturday. Our mother runs the salsas, our father is usually somewhere near the grill, and our kids bus tables through the summer.
There is a full bar now, with a long tequila list and margaritas shaken by hand. Happy hour runs three to six, Monday through Friday. We cater as well: party trays, tamales by the dozen around the holidays, and we can bring the cart out for larger events.
Rosa still comes in most Sundays and sits at the end of the bar with a plate of chilaquiles.
We came in for my mom’s birthday on a Friday and it was packed, but they found us a table in about ten minutes. The adobada tacos were the best I’ve had in the city and the salsa roja has a real kick to it. Our server brought out flan with a candle when he heard it was her birthday. We’ll be back.

Questions we get
-
Is the food spicy?
Not by default. The salsas come on the side, so that part is up to you. The roja is mild, the verde has some heat, and there is a habanero for anyone who wants it.
-
Do you have vegetarian options?
Yes. Rajas, nopales, mushroom and calabacitas, and most plates can be made without meat. Our beans are cooked with lard, so tell your server and they will bring rice instead.
-
Is anything gluten free?
The corn tortillas are, which covers most of the tacos and the plates. The flour tortillas and the burritos are not.
-
Do you take reservations?
For six or more, give us a call. Otherwise it is first come, first served. If there is a wait on a Friday you can put your name down and sit at the bar.
-
Where do we park?
There is a free lot behind the building. Street parking on Alvarado is usually easy after six.
-
Do you cater?
Yes. Party trays, tamales by the dozen around the holidays, and we can bring the cart out for larger events. Two weeks’ notice for anything over fifty people.
